Famous for its high-quality jewelry, Tamara Comolli has set foot in the hearts of gems and diamond lovers alike. The brand radiates elegance and youthfulness through its wide range of colorful products, while often having a tint of nature-inspired designs that bring the founder and designer right where she belongs.
Her Childhood
Born in Germany and raised in Spain, Tamara Comolli recalls her fondest memories as a child who spent a lot of time outdoors with long evenings on the beach with Spanish and Gibraltarian families and having picnic dinners every weekend on the bed of sand.
Her dad operated casinos in the country and she has always been dazzled by beautiful, bejeweled women. Tamara and her sister were introduced to gems and jewelry at a young age.
Her mother taught the girls the names of precious gems and the famous designers behind the jewelry, and later on being an encouragement for Tamara’s venture into the gems and jewelry business. Her mother gave her the best piece of advice she’s ever received… “Do what you believe in.”
Business Life and Family
Comolli pursued her studies in business at Munich University in Germany. She founded her brand TAMARA COMOLLI Fine Jewelry Collection in 1992. Her first flagship store was in the Hamptons, USA. Her success in that venture has led her to open up six boutiques, which are in Lake Tegernsee where she lives, Island of Sylt, Munich, Palm Beach Florida, Marbella Spain and Forte dei Marmi in Italy.
In 2004, Comolli won the International De Beers Diamond Award. This award is the most prestigious award for jewelry design in the industry, spurring her career even further.
Jewelry by Tamara Comolli can be found online, in her boutiques or select jewelers. Her products can be found in jewelers from America to Asia, and it’s very possible one is near you.
She has a simple family life, sharing it with a son, Tim, and two cocker spaniels, Toni and Theo. You can learn more about her personal life from an interview by Melissa Rose Bernardo of JCK.
Her Inspiration and Vision
Tamara finds much of her inspiration for jewelry design from nature and fashion. Her eyes see through how colors blend into each other and affect one’s mood. She further explains that her collection is nature-driven as the feel of the materials to the physical touch, like the wood on her skin also influences her perception. Interestingly enough, she adopted the drop (as in water droplet) as the symbol for her brand- a reconnection to her childhood growing up near beaches and lakes.
Her collection revolves around being “timeless, never trendy”, “with emotion, never excess”, “playful yet understated” and “casual yet elegant”. 30 years ago, when she started the business, it was common for jewelry to be too dressy, too uniform and got its justification from being branded or expensive. Her mission was to create something more unusual, more casual, and allowed the wearer the ability to be versatile with her personal style. Her client’s personal collection is always able to grow as they could still charm anyone today, with the jewelry they bought 20 years ago!
What’s important to her is that she wants fine jewelry to be fun for all occasions. She would wear a diamond pendant on a thin leather string to exhibit her fun side!
