Children are gifted with natural abilities even during their early life. In fact according to Dr. Leticia Ho, president and founder of the Philippine Center for Gifted Education, these natural abilities can turn into special talents and gifts when parents support and encourage their development.
My eldest has a unique capacity to learn things fast so I encourage him to learn new topics everyday by reading and watching educational videos. Me and my husband also enrolled him in a summer swimming class and he’s currently learning how to play the piano.
As per my youngest who has Autism Spectrum Disorder, we’re still figuring out what his strengths are. Right now he already knows his way around the house and his social skills have improved a lot.

I believe that as a parent, I have an important role to help my children nurture their talents. So to help unlock our kids’ potential, PROMIL FOUR’s Key Opinion Leaders, composed of experts in the field of Developmental Pediatrics, Clinical Psychology, Obstetrics, Health & Wellness and Nutrition, gave us some advice on how we can help shape our children’s gifts.
“As parents, our role is to help our children develop their gifts to reach their full potential,” Dr. Ho pointed out during the recent PROMIL® Four’s “Shaping the Gift of Tomorrow’s Greats” learning workshop, which gathered celebrity and blogger parents. “It is important to discover and nurture them early so that they will not be left untapped and undiscovered.”
Build a strong foundation for learning abilities
It is important to set up a strong foundation for your child’s learning abilities. According to Dr. Christina Padolina (Ob-Gyne and associate professor at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay), the best period to start building a strong groundwork for learning is during your child’s first 1,000 days, and it starts during pregnancy.
The crucial 1,000 days period is an important stage in a child’s life because it is when he or she exhibits adaptability and responsiveness to interventions. So make sure that the child gets proper nutrition and is exposed to a lot of learning activities.
Advance your child’s multi-dimensional development
Tippy Tanchanco, a developmental-behavioral pediatrician, mentioned that your child’s growth results from ongoing, reiterating, and cumulative external factors. She recommends that parents must expose their children to activities that support multi-dimensional or overall development.
The three building blocks to advancing multi-dimensional development are physical, mental, and socio-emotional. You can engage your child in different activities to nurture his or her gift to its full potential. Drawing or painting develops your child’s mental growth and yoga stimulates body movement and sensory experiences. Group games promote strong leadership qualities through imagination, communication, and collaboration. There are thousands of ways in which you can teach your child.
Ensure that your child gets proper nutrition
Aside from these activities, you must also make sure that your child gets the proper nutrition that they need. Without the right nutrients during the younger years, it may result in irreversible physical and cognitive impairments that prevent children from achieving their full potential.

I believe that we, as parents were our child’s first teacher. I agree on exposing them to multi-dimensional development as a basic learning skills. My daughter is turning 3 and I’m still undecided if I will stick with her current milk or change it. Mukhang ok din ang promil, may pang-3 years old ba sila?
It really is up to us parents to discover our little ones’ talents and abilities and it is a good practice to expose them to different activities that they might like and help hone their skills. Proper nutrition is also essential in our kids’ development and it is good to know that mums now have lots of options when it comes to milk formula.
Proper nutrition talaga ang need ng mga bata ngaun lalo na at super active sila. Yun nga lang I’ve been struggling on incorporating milk on their diet. Minsan dinadaya ko na sila pero nalalasahan pa din nila. Hindi ko pa ata nasusubukan ang Promil sa kanila.
When my son was still in toddler years, I also expose him in different activities so I will know his talents, skills or gifts. It is hard to know their wants, kasi pabago-bago pa rin. So far my son is into arts because he always join Art Club in school.
