Working in front of the computer all day can be exhausting, so I make sure that I take breaks every 30 minutes. Taking breaks relieves some stress and helps with increasing my productivity. Either it’s a quick break or a longer one that you need, make sure to schedule it.
Tips for Taking Breaks
- Schedule It: You need to ensure that your breaks are scheduled because sometimes we get too busy to forget that much-needed five-minute break or a longer break in the middle of the day. Scheduling your breaks also helps with breaking down your tasks.
- Move Around: Yes you may take a break while sitting down in front of your PC or scrolling through your phone, but it’s recommended that you incorporate movement into your break time. Step away from your work for a while, stretch, or use the stairs to help you stay active and improve your overall physical health. As for me, I always consider taking a walk or doing a quick yoga session.
- Disconnect for a while: It’s easy to be tempted to go back to your desk to check emails or use your phone to respond to work messages, so make sure that you completely disconnect. Take some time to breathe and stop any activities that are work-related.
- Do Enjoyable Stuff: During breaks, you may engage in activities you enjoy. Listen to the new album of your favorite artist, continue reading that book you bought a month ago, knit or do some scrapbooking, or whatever it is that makes you happy.
In conclusion, taking breaks during the workday is essential for maintaining both physical and mental health, increasing productivity, and reducing stress. Remember to schedule breaks into your day, incorporate movement into your break time, disconnect from work-related technology, and do something you enjoy during your break time. By taking breaks, you’ll ultimately be more productive and happier in both your work and personal life.
Tap Supermarket
We are gamers in our household so we turn to video games when we get stressed during work days. Whether they are on mobile, console, or PC, we make sure to play games that help us recharge.
I am currently enjoying the games at mortgagecalculator.org/money-games/. They have a list of money & finance games, both for kids and adults. One of my favorites is the Tap Supermarket. I’ve played the Supermarket Mania on mobile before and I spent hours playing that game, and this is so similar to that.
Tap Supermarket is a grocery store simulation game wherein you manage a grocery store — stock items, check out customers, and use profits to expand your product line. It’s a fairly easy game and a great way to pass time. You only have to click the items that are out of stock (green circle), click the cashier to checkout customers, and earn money to purchase new display racks.
Cashier Simulator
My son’s favorite is this Cashier Simulator. It teaches him how to operate the cash register at a grocery store. This money game will teach kids how to count bills & coins, follow a step-by-step guide, attend to customers, learn about math basics such as addition and multiplication, be introduced to a variety of payment options (cash, credit card, debit card, etc.), learn about purchasing in bulk, be smart about giving out change to the customers, recognize grocery items, learn how to use a barcode reader, and appreciate the job of a cashier attendant.
The game has 160 stages and when you level up, there are different challenges.
