For a lot of women taking on the role of mom as well as “Super-Mom,” the idea of working from home is very appealing. It allows you to merge the responsibilities and enjoyment of being a stay-at-home mom (SAHM) all while having the career you didn’t have to sacrifice for domestication. Even with the benefits of merging family and work together, it isn’t always as easy in the day-to-day life of it all as you would initially think it would be.
One of the workplace “hazards” of working from home would be the aspect of productivity. You’re trying to get work done, yet you still have to keep a constant eye on your child/children. Hiring a nanny would be the perfect solution to the problems that work-from-home moms (WFHM) could experience.
The Nanny Nightmares All Moms Fear
Before even considering hiring a nanny, you definitely want to make sure you have your ducks in a row. You will want to follow a guide to make sure you’re in compliance with nanny taxes as well as do an extensive check on the background and references of potential nanny candidates.
Whether you’re a SAHM or a WFHM, the idea of leaving your child in the care of a total stranger can definitely be a terrifying thought. Even though you’ve followed the proper guidelines, conducted several interviews, and background and references checked out, you still tend to have that fear in the back of your mind that someone could potentially be endangering your child.
Drinking on the job, abuse, and neglect…it’s very common to have those fears, that’s why it’s important, as an employer, to choose a nanny service through an accredited site and conduct a thorough background check to ease those fears. CNN reported a nanny nightmare story that would terrify any parent but being a WFHM will at least allow you to keep a better watch on your nanny.
Why Hire a Nanny?
You Can Work Uninterrupted
If you’re a mom, then you know how demanding kids can be for attention (at any age!). Although you love them and all the funny quirks they have, this demand for attention can turn into a problem that’s bad for business.
Having a nanny at home will allow you to focus your undivided attention strictly on running your business; even if it’s only for a few hours. Knowing that your child is being watched by a reliable and trustworthy nanny will give you the peace of mind to complete a project on a tight deadline or conduct a conference call without any interruptions.
Abilities to Monitor Your Nanny’s Quality of Care
As mentioned earlier, one of the biggest fears among parents with hiring a nanny is the aspect of letting a stranger in your home and leaving them to care for your child. Well, one of the positive aspects of working from home is that you’ll be able to keep a closer eye on the nanny being that you both are under the same roof.
Whether you choose to take advantage of cameras or drop in on the interactions between the nanny and your child, you still have the advantage of being in close vicinity of your child and are close enough to take necessary action if needed.
Able to Get to Know the Nanny and Establish a Relationship
For moms who work outside the home and use the services of a nanny, they typically see their nanny at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day. Working from home allows you to build a stronger relationship with your nanny which will, in turn, allow you to build a level of trust that can build the foundation to a solid personal and professional relationship.
You’re Able to Tackle Your To-Do Lists
Do you remember how you were able to just up and go whenever you felt like it before you had kids? Now that you have a child/children, you have to either make sure you have someone that can watch them or go through the process of getting them ready and loaded safely in your car.
With a nanny, you’re now able to run to the gym, go to the grocery store, and attend meetings as your schedule allows it. That will allow you to complete all the do’s on your to-do list as well as give yourself a little personal time as well, and as a mom, personal time is essential for your sanity.
THis is true. Although in our culture, we’d look like lazy if we still hire a nanny when we are at home. It’s so unfair. haha
Although, if I were in the Philippines, I think someone to look at the kids while I do some important things from time to time would be great or someone to clean the house or someone to cooke whenever needed would really be great. =)
I love the thought of having a nanny for my toddlers and even for my teens. A nanny now only helps in looking after the kids but also help in the household chores. Sadly, we had several horror stories about yayas that until now, we opt not to get one.
Nannies are great when you have a good one, but after a series of bad ones that capped with a horrible experience with the last one, we’ve forgone nannies. We rely on babysitters among church friends when we need to go out. I have also learned to manage my time to work and homeschool and even take them to their trainings and professional projects. Ang kailangan ko tagalinis, hehe.
I am an 8-5 corporate employee and I dont have my parents with me, so I really had no choice but get nannies for my children when they were younger. Those were difficult times especially when they are sick.
They are now aged 10 and 15 so I dont worry so much anymore.
When I was working full time and had multiple clients I find it hard talaga to work without any help kasi kids wanted me to stop from working. Malaking help talaga ang may nanny. You can focus to those things na need mo gawin and matapos in time. Thanks for sharing these tips Mommy Shane.
