PlayLab PH: Things to Do in this Digital Playground for Kids

Raising kids in the digital age is a real challenge. They need to be more active (I enrolled Z last summer in a Parkour Workshop by Ninja Academy PH and N is only allowed to use his tablet every weekend) so getting my kids off their gadgets is a goal for me on a regular basis.

That’s why I was super excited for Z when we visited PlayLab PH last Monday during his school field trip. PlayLab PH is an interactive digital play park for kids and one of the pioneers of digital playgrounds here in the Philippines.

It’s similar to Arts & Science Museum: Future World in Singapore. The husband and I got to explore and play in this digital world a few years back and everything was just amazing.

Before entering PlayLab, we took a few photos outside and we were asked to use hand sanitizers and wear glow stick bracelets. It’s basically dark inside. Dapat pala I wore a glow-in-the-dark outfit, LOL. Also, socks are a must, and if ever you’ll visit [with your kids], let them wear comfy clothes.

Here are a few reminders:

  • The Entrance Fee for kids is PhP 450 for 2 hours, and PHP 100 per hour after the first 2 hours.
  • Children below 6 years old must be accompanied by a guardian.
  • Socks are required. If you’re not wearing socks, you can buy them at PlayLab for PHP 50 – PHP 100.

Upon entering, it was a deja vu for me. It felt like being sucked into another dimension. The place gives off a familiar futuristic vibe and the excitement I had was really for my son because I love taking him to places he’d never been before.

PlayLab Robinsons Galleria has 14 digital attractions. These installations help stimulate the kids’ creativity and logic and help encourage active play and interaction with other kids.

Infinity Pool

Colorful and interactive circles on the floor and mirrors everywhere. It looked like a never-ending room and we were a bit flustered about where to go next. LOL.

Digital Painter

Z picked up a crayola/pencil pillow and started painting on an interactive wall, bringing back colors to flowers.

Planet Defense

There is a planet at the center of the climbing wall. Once the game starts, various objects fly to attack the planet. Children need to touch these objects with their hands and feet to protect the planet.

Fantasy Water Flow

Fantasy Water Flow is a multi-touch educational interactive screen. It allows kids to freely create structure and guide water flow to generate various effects. This develops kids’ hands-on and scientific thinking skills.

Rainbow Tree

The Rainbow Tree is the centerpiece of PlayLab Galleria. This glowing piece of art is an interactive treehouse that kids can climb to reveal a secret world on top or play with the swings around it. When you’re tired of exploring, this is the best place to be.

Fantasy Slope

This is definitely the children’s favorite. Who can resist a slide that lights up and makes you feel like you’re traveling at a high speed in outer space?

Live Dreams

Future World has something like this din. There’s an area where kids can color a drawing of a dragon, fairy, UFO, wizard, elf, unicorn, gingerbread man, or hot air balloon.  After they’ve finished coloring, they will submit the paper so that their artwork will be scanned.

Scanned artworks’ images will then be projected onto a giant dream world. Z’s dragon creation came to life and together with all the other fantasy characters created by other kids.

Doodle Aquarium

Same as Live Dreams, but here you can draw your own sea creature and watch your creation move and interact with other aquatic creatures in a larger than life digital aquarium.

Butterfly World

This digital installment is one of our favorites. On the touch-screen art tables are butterflies and flowers that can be digitally colored and designed. We spent a lot of time creating our masterpieces and seeing them on the wall.

What’s projected on the wall is a butterfly garden filled with all the butterflies and flowers that the kids designed.

Another Land

Kids can join the peculiar jellyfish and spiked balls when they come to the screen and their silhouette turns into a light wave!

The Giant

Enter the world of fairytales! Z enjoyed the green screen magic when his image became a giant and he could catch airplanes or hot air balloons.

Evolution of Stars

There’s an area, a floor area, that will make you feel like you’re walking out there in space. Kids will learn about the evolution of stars — from supernovas to black holes. It was super fun when you notice the stars grow bigger as they follow you around.

Ball Strike

Probably the best fusion of digital & physical play. Z was entertained by the interactive digital shooting area. He got to throw soft balls onto aliens and UFO’S on the screen stealing toys from Earth. At the end of the game, you get to know your score – gold, silver, or bronze medal.

Tap Tap Wall

Right before the EXIT sign is the Tap Tap Wall, a wall of lights that turn on and off when pressed. I imagined having this installment in our future house. Lighting and decor as one!

PLAY is a Child’s Work

Young kids need to play because it is the foundation of future learning. When they play, they will be able to use their creativity and hone other skills like critical thinking and emotional strength.

At home, I make sure that my kids get to have enough playtime. Sometimes I play toys and board games with them. I also take them to kiddie establishments to broaden their experiences.
