Aside from kuya Z’s summer classes at Consis Better Learning Center, this summer 2019 I want to enroll him in a sports program.
My son is growing up weird & nerdy (yep, we’re a nerd family), so I want him to take on fitness and wellness activities to re-balance his lifestyle.
Milo Summer Sports Clinics
I checked out Milo Philippines website and browsed over the list of their summer clinics. We were interested in Parkour and Taekwondo, and also Chess since Z is fond of playing chess pero we were going the “sporty” route so hindi na muna. We also thought that it’s way too early for him to join Taekwondo so we have chosen Parkour.
Other sports programs listed in MILO are Arnis, Badminton, Basketball, Bowling, Fencing, Football, Futsal, Golf, Gymnastics, Ice Skating, Karatedo, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Touch Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, and Wushu.
I followed the enrollment process posted on their website — choose a sport, select a location, contact the organizers, fill out the registration form, and pay the fee. The whole process was accomplished online, so walang hassle. I also paid through GCash so I didn’t have to visit the bank. After confirming my payment, they sent me the schedule through FB 🙂
Parkour Workshop Rates
There’s an annual registration fee of PHP 1,200 and a 6-session package fee of PHP 3,600 (2 hours per session), a total of PHP 4,800.
The fee is inclusive of Accidental Insurance Coverage and a MILO welcome kit — MILO drawstring bag, MILO chocolate drink sachets, Ninja Academy PH shirt and Ninja Academy PH badge pin.
The Attack Arena
I was the one who was excited when we first arrived at The Attack Arena located along Congressional Avenue Extension in Quezon City. The wall art on the exterior walls made the establishment more inviting.
The Attack Arena is Manila’s first combat arena mainly for PvP Archery, Medieval Combat, and Tactical Strike. But it also houses other fitness programs such as parkour, taekwondo, etc.
The interior space, especially the comfort room area, is also adorned with murals. The cutest for me is the hamster wall in one of the toilet cubicles.
Ninja Academy: Parkour Workshop for Kids
A sport born in the streets, parkour teaches proper body and mind coordination, efficiency, creativity, and self-confidence. On its 3rd year of partnership with the MILO® Summer Sports Clinics, the Ninja Academy can train your child to become a top-performing athlete by helping him maneuver through different obstacles. – MILO.com.ph
Hindi kami nagkamali ng pagpili. 🙂 Our eldest was always looking forward to every session because it’s a perfect combination of fun and fitness. And also, Coach Jhatz and Coach Aaron were both helpful and patient when it comes to teaching kids with no parkour training experience. Thank you! 🙂
The parkour workshop by Ninja Academy is ongoing. You may enroll your kids kahit hindi summer vacation. 🙂
Every session starts and ends with warm-up exercises. I was told in college before that a warm-up exercise is important prior to doing any physical activity.

Since Z is a beginner in Parkour, the trainers taught him the fundamentals first — basic moves and jumps, and how to land properly after a jump to minimize injury. After a session or two, they taught him a variety of movements to maneuver through obstacles.
I used to watch American Ninja Warrior, and yes, Parkour is similar to that. So it’s okay to say na Ninja training siya hahaha.
Running, hopping, and jumping on parkour boxes/parkour beams can be so much fun. They also play the Monkey Wars game to wrap up each session. 🙂

We chose Parkour for a number of reasons (for one, increasing his chances of survival during emergency situations and/or when he’s being chased by a criminal, LOL) Another reason is the [health] benefits it can give to my child.
Here are the Top 10 Benefits of Parkour and Free Running by www.healthfitnessrevolution.com:
- Full body workout. Free running and making your way through obstacles will need work from all of your muscle groups.
- Promotes quick-thinking skills. Parkour requires quick decision-making especially in tackling challenges and obstacles. Weighing your options and acting on them as quickly & as effectively as possible is a must.
- Fosters creativity. Overcoming obstacles require creativity.
- Boosts confidence. To conquer challenges, walls, and challenges will build your confidence.
- Skill-related fitness — Agility, balance, power, speed, coordination, and reaction time.
- Builds core strength. Some parkour movements will allow you to exert power and strength and they will help build your core.
- Bone strength. Jumping, climbing, balancing, and other high impact movements will help strengthen your bones.
- Cardiovascular endurance. Parkour requires you to be active so it helps build your stamina and makes your heart strong.
- Reduces anti-social behavior. As with any sports activity, it helps participants to connect with their coaches and teammates.
- Easy to learn and needs no special equipment.

N, my youngest, wasn’t able to enroll in any summer workshop because he was still “unfit” to join such activities. We are currently focusing on Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy to help improve his communication skills and behavior. Hopefully, in the future, he won’t be just a spectator anymore. 🙂
