My husband told me about this cool kinetic sand toy when he was in Australia last year. He wasn’t able to get one so when it finally arrived here in the Philippines a couple of months ago, I asked him that we buy one for the kids. We got the play set including the original squeezable sand, Wacky-tivities Kinetic Sand by Spin Master.
Kinetic Sand is available at Toys R Us. We bought ours in Trinoma when we happened to pass by its booth. I got curious so I instantly grabbed the sand with my hands. It felt weird and funny but I was amazed by how it oozes and moves and melts.
We took home a set of Kinetic Sand, complete with 454 grams (1lb) of purple sand, 4 plastic sand molds, and 1 plastic sand box tray.
It was an instant hit with the kids. The fine-textured sand can be pulled, squeezed, shaped, and molded to create awesome sand art. My toddler’s initial reaction was to put the sand into his mouth but he learned later on that it was more fun to just play with it. Even if the sand is wheat, gluten, and casein-free, you still have to watch your children to make sure nothing goes inside their tummy.
The sand molds include a castle, a fish, a seahorse, and a turtle (shovel isn’t included in the set). These tools make sensory play more fun and creative.
I also find the sand therapeutic, so I sometimes play with it whenever I feel a bit off. Since the sand tends to stick together (but does not stick to your hands), clean up is a lot easier. The grains are meant to find each other and stick together.
The only thing I don’t like about kinetic sand is when it begins to moist. The humidity in the air can make it unmanageable; most of the time I can’t use molds because the sand won’t hold its shape. Sand also sticks to my hand. Label says it will return to its normal texture at 60% humidity. I went back to Trinoma to ask about the bad condition of our sand then a salesman suggested that I blow-dry or air dry it every now and then.
If you want to purchase the sand only, you can buy it for PhP 800. You can also choose from other [neon] sand colors such as pink, blue, and green. Kinetic Sand also comes in natural brown.
There’s also this peanut-shaped hard case which houses a 170g of sand for PhP 500. If you’re looking for an affordable gift, this is it!
I remember playing with glittery PLAY-DOH eons ago. Well Kinetic sand also has glittery sand in gem colors: Shimmering Emerald, Shimmering Amethyst, and Shimmering Sapphire.
Check out Toys R Us’ branches for stocks. 🙂
Kinetic Sand has more playsets and add-ons that are not [yet] available here in PH. I personally would love to have the activity table.

I’m from Australia and I have never heard of kinetic sand!! Where have I been?
It looks like so much fun, even now as an adult. I might get some for my cousins! Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂
Ay naku, gustong gusto ni Mariel yang Kinetic Sand kaso ang mahal!
There are cheaper versions yata Mommy Lani 🙂
Your kids surely look like they’re enjoying their kinetic sand! I will show your post to my son to see if he’ll like it, too.
I want to try this but I’m scared that my kids’ won’t like it. Madirihin kasi. LOL! I’ll show this to my toddlers and see what their reactions will be then I’ll buy 🙂
Oh I get you. Nung una ayaw ng bunso ko hehe. Parang nagccrawl kasi yung kinetic sand sa kamay hahaha
Children will love this toy. Parents may just have to contend with some mess but who cares if the children are enjoying while learning.
i love toys like this that encourage creativity and play! is it not too makalat? haha
Oh, so this is what it is! I’ve been seeing this around and have been curious but I’m afraid to buy it for the kids as I can just imagine the mess they’d create with it. Haha.
Hahaha yeah.. kaya ako todo bantay 🙂
I’ve been planning to buy a set for my son since last year, but we tried making our own moonsand first (not quite the same but almost). It had moulds after it was covered while not yet completely dry, so now I’m afraid to buy the real thing!
Ohh, gumawa rin kami ng moonsand pero flour and baby oil lang hehe. Not the same as kinetic sand pero okay na for sensory play. 🙂
I wanted to buy this for my little boy. But back then, it’s not available in Toy Kingdom yet. And the set is mahal pala!
Yup medyo pricey. But the quality is good naman 🙂
The first time I saw it I was like “wow ang galing!” hehehe. Will definitely buy this one for my son. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Kahit ako sabi ko nung una, Ang cool! 🙂
I wish they have something gluten-free. My baby’s allergic to any chemicals 🙁
