My Rating: [rating=5]
I received an email a few weeks ago to check out JoomaJam, a learning app for kids which showcases kid-friendly music videos by (Original Pinoy Music) OPM artists. It is currently one of my firstborn’s favorite apps.
Parents of this generation are so fortunate to have a broader array of educational tools. When I was a kid, I spent quite a number of trips to the library to finish my school assignments. Now, we have unlimited access to the Internet, we own high tech gadgets such as mobile phones and tablets, and who knows what else will come next.
Using mobile and tablet apps is already part of our family’s daily routine. My 4-year old son borrows the tablet at least 2 times a day to play games. In fact I’ve lost count on how many apps for children I’ve downloaded, ever since I first received my iPod Touch almost 5 years ago. Tech-savvy moms like me understand the opportunity for growth by taking advantage of technology (and using it responsibly) to enhance their children’s potential.
Joomajam, launched by Ritmo Learning Lab, is a collection of educational Original Pilipino Music accompanied by lesson plans, recommended activities, and resources. The videos also come in bilingual format, Filipino and English. Some of the famous local singers featured in the app are Gary Valenciano, Barbie Almalbis-Honasan, Itchy Worms, Jolina Magdangal, The Dawn, and Julianne Tarroja.
The music videos teach children about the Filipino culture. Zaiel’s favorites are “Alkansya” by the Dawn and “Kulay” by Barbie Almalbis (see the screenshot below.) My son speaks more English than Filipino so I’m happy that he’s learning more Tagalog words from the songs (kahel, dilaw, and alkansya.) The songs are so easy to follow and memorize that we always get an LSS (last song syndrome.)
The Joomajam app, created especially for Pinoy kids, is FREE! Visit the website below so you can download the app on your Android or iOS device.
