When you’re redecorating your child’s bedroom, there are a few decisions you’ll need to make before you start. The first is whether you’re going to do the decorating yourself. Are you treating this as a DIY project? Redecorating your child’s bedroom is a great opportunity to learn or hone a few skills. Like learning how to wallpaper the walls or practising your painting.
You’ll also need to consider how much money you want to spend on redecorating. And are there expensive items, like a bed, that you need to buy? Another thing to consider is any special needs your child may have. This may determine how the room functions.
Once you’ve considered all these points, you may need some ideas to help with your child’s bedroom redecoration. So, here’s a few suggestions to get your creative ideas flowing.
Pick calming colors
If your aim is to create a calm space for your child to sleep in, then pick a color scheme with calming rather than stimulating colors. Vibrant reds, yellows and oranges, whilst fun and energizing, may not be suitable for your child’s bedroom. Calming colors such as purples, blues and greens may be better.
Striking patterns or natural themes
This leads nicely onto what patterns or themes to introduce in the bedroom. Using patterns can be fun and interesting in a child’s bedroom, but they can also be distracting. Themes based on nature are a great alternative. Soft or curving lines are best if you want to use patterns, such as those found in the natural world. Like the patterns found in leaves and shells.
Keep clutter hidden away
A cluttered room is another big distraction from getting a good night’s sleep. Make sure you have enough storage in the bedroom so that you can put all the toys and other clutter away before bedtime.
Get your child involved
This may be your DIY project, but it’s your child’s room, so get them involved too. They can help pick colors and items for the room. Why not create some artwork or décor for the walls together? Make paintings, wall hangings, mobiles or garlands.
Makeover the furniture
If the bedroom furniture is looking a bit worn, but you don’t plan to buy anything new, why not give it a makeover? There are lots of easy ways to give furniture new life, such as painting it, changing the handles, decorating with Washi tape or covering with wallpaper.
