“A mild blend of essential oils in a fruit extract distillate base intended to drive away those pesky insects. Smells good too and is non staining on baby’s clothes and linen.”

Giga Insect Repellant Spray for Baby

I go natural and organic when it comes to baby products. I don’t want to compromise, so I choose natural insect repellant spray to protect my son from Dengue fever.

Giga Insect Repellant Spray for Baby is one of my best bets. It’s a blend of natural essential oils and has a citrus scent that drives away mosquitoes. The seller in SM Trinoma told me that it’s safe to use even for newborn babies. I can also spray it on my baby’s blankets and pillows to keep away other insects as well. Don’t worry, it doesn’t stain.

Giga Insect Repellant Spray is also free from DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide). DEET is an effective insect repellant that is widely used since the 50s. It can be harmful if ingested and if used near water sources. It is also considered a solvent and a pesticide. You really should have second thoughts about products with DEET since you don’t want applying solvent or pesticide on your baby’s skin.

Check out this report from Wikipedia:

Citing human health reasons, Health Canada barred the sale of insect repellents for human use that contained more than 30% DEET in a 2002 re-evaluation. The agency recommended that DEET based products be used on children between the ages of 2 and 12 only if the concentration of DEET is 10% or less and that repellents be applied no more than 3 times a day, children under 2 should not receive more than 1 application of repellent in a day and DEET based products of any concentration not be used on infants under 6 months.

So, I advise mommies to check product labels and research about specific product ingredients to ensure children’s safety.
