Fascinating Facts About How Palm Jumeirah Was Built

Most people are drawn to the finished design and style of the Palm Jumeirah, but only a few are fully aware of have little knowledge of how the community was built. Here in this article will you get to know the mind-blowing facts about how the beautiful city was established.

Fascinating Facts About How Palm Jumeirah Was Built

Built with soil and rocks

I wonder how it will be possible for such community to stand conveniently on the sea without being built with solid materials. My guess was right the moment I discover it was made with millions of tons of rock and sand.  As you all know that every building start with a foundation and the same implies with the Palm Jumeirah.

The foundation of the Palm Jumeirah is different since it was not made with concrete but with seven million tons of rocks from Hajar Mountains after it was blasted. The island is filled with sand of about 120 million cubic meters which was taken out of the sea. And the sand that was scooped is used to form the island.

The island was protected with breakwater

The sand dredged from the sea is used to create the island, and also, there is a crescent-shaped breakwater which happens to be the first section of the development of the palm.  The work of the breakwater is to protect the island from any strong wind and movement of the sea.

The sand can quickly wash away, but with the help of the geotextile membrane, the sand can’t easily wash away and also, it’s topped with one-ton rocks as the first layer and with additional five tons of rocks. It is designed a way that the water can’t be stagnant with the 100-meter wide opening that allows the flow of water.

The shape of the palm was plotted with the help of satellites by engineers

While the crescent is in place, there is need to create the trunk and 17 inner fronds, and that was done through the fleet of sand dredgers. The idea was to create a great palm shape and through the use of the dredgers; the sand was sprayed into place with accuracy. The island itself covers about 600 football pitches through the help of the Vibro-compaction.

A temporary dam was built

Just about 1.2 km long dykes were constructed to create a dam. It happens through six lane sea tunnel, thirty thousand tons of steel and hundred of ten thousand tons of big rock were all positioned in the sea at about 25m level. It took just 45 days to get more than 5.5 million cubic meters of seawater was out of the sea with more than 3000 fishes trapped and relocated to prevent them from being trapped. It happens that the dykes that were created were then used for temporary roads for vehicles.

It took just six years to build

Do you know how long it took to make the Palm Jumeirah? It was a $12 billion project, and it lasted for six years before it was brought to completion. It all started in the year 2001, and today it hosts more than 1600 mansions with added 5000 apartments on the trunk.  It also hosts hotels and some resort center. The palm was completed in the year 2007, and since then, it has been one of the best places in Dubai you would love to pay a visit.

In conclusion, Palm Jumeirah is one of the most sought-after places in Dubai, and that’s because of the beauty and the design of the community. The serene environment is the right place to be for those who love to be around the beach and love the natural breeze.

Moreover, not everyone living on the island knows how the whole place came into existence, and it is why we’ve decided to share with you how the beautiful community was created and what it takes to finish it to what we all see and witness today. It took just six years to bring the idea into manifestation, and since then, it has been a significant blessing to the city of Dubai with a lot of people relocating to the community and turning it to a residential area.
