This season, color block fashion is in. Color blocking is a styling technique that involves creating two or more blocks of color in an ensemble. It simply means putting together an outfit with solid colors that are next to each other. Bright and bold colors usually represent the trend but if you aren’t that brave to wear them, use darker colors instead.
For beginners, it doesn’t have to be a dress. Try color blocking with your shoes, accessories, bags, or even makeup. I love how Nikki of AskMeWhats showcased her “Color Blocking” Summer Look eye makeup.
There is, however, one rule when you dare try the color blocking trend: You must know the color wheel basics. Creative use of color is the key. You will need different colors to combine so you have to know what colors work together. I suggest this Color Wheel guide from Fire Mountain Gems. I’ve been using it for making beaded jewelry and it’s a great tool for finding colors that organically pair with each other in Monochrome, Analog, Complementary, and Split Complementary.
I don’t usually follow trends, especially those that do not fit right into my personality. But I’d like to give this a try. Summer naman, why not?
