With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season starting earlier each year, few people take the time to research the companies and services they patronize. In recent years, “Giving Tuesday,” has allowed many companies to donate to charities and non-profit organizations, or “match” donations given from the public. But for a few companies, the giving spirit isn’t limited to just one day in November. Below are three companies that are spreading holiday cheer well into the new year.
SKYCAP FINANCIAL
The Kingston, Ontario based company SkyCap Financial, known for providing hassle-free personal loan options, has once again partnered with the Salvation Army to help those in need this holiday season.
Since 2013, SkyCap Financial has worked with the local community to help those less fortunate — and this year is no exception. Working with the Salvation Army, SkyCap Financial will help organize the Salvation Army Holiday Toy Drive by donating time and volunteers. SkyCap Financial employees fill shopping carts with toys for children and then drop the items to the Kingston Salvation Army. The toys are then distributed to more than 3,000 families in the Kingston, Ontario area.
In addition to helping provide a Christmas for local families, SkyCap Financial supports other charitable organizations throughout the year, like The Ovarian Cancer Walk, the Walk for ALS and the Ride to Conquer Cancer.
RL SOLUTIONS
Toronto-based RL Solutions is a healthcare software company focused on providing hospital-based solutions. The company has joined with the SickKids Milk & Cookies food truck to offer Le Gourmand chocolate chip cookies with a glass of milk for $10, which will benefit the SickKids Foundation – an organization dedicated to providing the highest standard in healthcare to children all over the world. The truck will be making visits at local events and neighborhoods from December 4 through December 23.
TOMS
Originally formed with the mission of donating one pair of shoes to those in need for every purchase made, Toms was founded in 2006 and has expanded from shoes to apparel, eyewear, coffee and bags. Even more remarkable than the business model of “one for one,” is the company’s success in working with nearly 100 corporate partners in over 70 countries around the world. To date, Toms has given to those in need: 86 million shoes; sight restoration for 600,000 individuals; 600,000 weeks of safe water; provided women across three continents with safe birthing procedures and served over 70,000 youth in bullying prevention. As if the company didn’t make enough strides, they have also donated over $5 million in ending gun violence by partnering with various organizations in North America to request stricter background checks in firearms purchases.
